ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mary Leonard is an accomplished artist now focusing on the instruction of others. She co-developed a new art form in 1969 called Mariahsachin. This technique is designed to bring to, and take from, your life through a 14 layered conversation with the canvas and paint. Her paintings typically are vivid, raw emotion, using highly textured acrylic, but she is not confined to any media or style.
Very well traveled and having taught throughout the US, she most recently had three studios at the Island Tree Ranch, Whidbey Island, Washington, with 29 wildly-tamed acres for meditation and instruction. Also has a studio in Loveland Colorado. She sold her first painting at the age of 12 and had her first one-women show at 13. More recent one-man shows over the last decade were in Fort Collins, CO, Edmonds, WA, and at many venues in Coupeville, WA. She has shown at the MOCA ("Museum of Contemporary Art") as well as galleries in Ohio, Colorado, and Washington. She won competitions in Illinois, Ohio, and Colorado. Mary chaired and demonstrated for four years in Artists in Action for the "Coupeville Arts & Crafts Festival", a juried demonstration feature of the festival. Mary was honored to receive an art grant to create within the Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve 18 sculpture gardens in downtown Coupeville as a competition. She is now developing a video documentary and authoring a book.
Recently showing at Japan’s Nagasaki Peace Museum. Will show at the Parker “Art In The Park”. Look for her Start at Castle Rock this August and her mentors at the Castle Rock library in July. Next seminar will be held August 11 and 12 2012 in Castle Rock at Elevations Academy 205 Fourth St.
