September 11, 2001, I was two weeks into my elementary art teaching career, instructing 850 students when 9/11 stopped our lives. A week after the attacks my fabulous principal asked me to teach patriotic lessons to help children heal and learn from this painful event. There were lots of red, white and blue colors that year in the art room. Students created their own personal patriotic flag.

My patriotic teaching inspired me to create large flag prints, so I could personally start to heal from 9/11. My first print I pulled, “Coming Together”, strangers, artists,individuals, mother and child, and families bonding to support their patriotic love. Original print 22 x 30 sold very quickly in Des Moines to a patriotic friend for $200.00, June, 2002.
