About the Artist
Twisting, turning, scrutinizing perspective and proportion, front and back. This is just the beginning when sculptor, Robert Dewaele begins a new sculpture.
Dewaele looks forward to hiking through the area woodlands hunting for raw materials for his sculptures. Growing up in a rural area gave him a true appreciation for the natural beauty that is an inspiration and driving force for the creation of his sculptures. He also enhances the wooden sculptures with bronze accents.
Les Bruning, owner of Bruning Sculpture in Omaha, Nebraska, has been both an art professor and mentor for Dewaele. Mr. Bruning and Dewaele both have art studios at the Hot Shops Art Center in Downtown Omaha. This art center provides the room and specialized tools which are necessary for the creation of complicated and large scale sculptures. Miriam Boyd, a high school teacher, planted the seed which developed into Dewaele’s long-term creative journey.
Dewaele’s art work is currently being shown at Gallery Eppley by Hudson at the Omaha airport, and at the Burkholder Project in Lincoln, Nebraska. Formerly, he was a long term member of the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery in the Old Market area of Omaha.
He has sculptures in private collections throughout the United States and Canada.
