About the Artist

My art is about expressing the beauty and emotions of what I experience in a moment of unique perception. I strive to reduce these moments into simple, subtle shapes, colors and forms.

The evolution of my artistry has taken me from sculpture and watercolor to pencil, rapidograph pen pointillism, oils, Polaroid Image transfers, photography, and Gouache. Currently, I am working in Open acrylics and mixed media.

Every medium presents its own set of challenges. Although I found Gouache (opaque watercolor) to have a rich sensual quality like that of silk screening, the Open acrylics that I use are much more forgiving especially with layering, which provides a conversation among the colors. It is amazing how color affects depth perception. For me this interaction is the most exciting part of painting. I find acrylics allow me to play with shapes, colors and depth in a different way.

I enjoy painting southwest landscapes, shapes, flowers, people and now my new direction is that of abstract painting. Retirement from being a school social worker has afforded me the opportunity to be a full-time artist, allowing me to immerse myself into a different reality that I have waited so long to have.
